Antiques add a unique and authentic touch to modern decor, and is hands-down one of the best ways to customize a contemporary space. Vintage pieces often give a room character & history, and they can also serve as a focal point or a conversation starter. For me, mixing the new & old in decor creates a unique style that directly reflects my individual tastes.
Decorating a space is about so much more than a "look", it is about appealing to all of you senses. If I was to describe my favorite space, it would be a balance of one-of-a-kind antiques, modern soft textiles like plush pillows & baby-soft blankets, and enveloping sweet smelling candles. It would be a space that felt 100% like me, and would captivate many of my five senses.
Decor should be visually appealing & emotionally satisfying, so for me, adding in pieces that you feel a connection to is very important. Every family heirloom, antique, & vintage item I have collected is aesthetically beautiful, but more importantly, it holds significant value for me in the experience and story that comes with it.
Before our two beautiful babies were born, my husband & I spent our weekends at yard sales and antique shops searching for unique finds. We would then restore the pieces with paint and upholstery, and sell them at local markets & stores. Now for the past 8 years our "project" has been raising our kids. Yet, after we built our home in 2022, it reignited our passion for antiques & modern design. And now with the creation of Five Senses Decor, our hope is to be able to share our new (and some old) ideas with everyone who loves this style of decor just as much as we do!
All the best! - Stacy
